The MythTV Convergence: Unofficial Plug-ins
MythTV Recording Extender
MythTV's Recording Extender is a combination of two PHP scripts that can monitor and facilitate live television recording. Though it is designed primarily to handle sports events, this extender may be applied to any live feed that has some potential for running behind schedule (late starts) and adjusts recording time accordingly.
Windows Programs
A few enthusiastic Windows users have devised programs to enable Windows machines to access existing MythTV resources, thereby extending MythTV functionality to this proprietary platform. As with many of the unofficial MythTV plug-ins, some of these are half-baked and have fallen into disrepair but we include them here for completeness' sake.
MythHelper
MythHelper is a Windows application designed to assist in the transcoding of NuppleVideo recordings created using a MythTV system into Xvid AVI or DVD MPEG-2 formats. This requires a capture card with onboard decoding capability on a Windows machine located on a MythTV network.
DsMyth
DsMyth is another plug-in that enables Windows hosts to participate in MythTV backend recordings. This collection of DirectShow filters permit media files to be streamed across networks and remote hosts can start up live television on a select card where there are many to choose from.
