Watch This Diablo 3: Wrath Animated Short Clip

On Tuesday Blizzard sent over a short animated Diablo 3 clip from director Peter Chung and acclaimed animation studio Titmouse. It depicts a unique vision of a fundamental moment in the battle between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, a moment that took place long before the creation of Sanctuary. If you ever wanted to see what a Diablo-themed anime would look like, here's your chance.

"Watch the behind-the-scenes interviews with Nick Carpenter, Chris Metzen, James Waugh, renowned director Peter Chung (of Aeon Flux fame), and Chris Prynoski, president and owner of Titmouse, Inc., to learn more about this short-length film and what it took to bring its story to life, from concept to creation," Blizzard writes in an email.

The video is the final unlock of Blizzard’s "Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise" promotion for Diablo 3. "Travelers to New Tristram have uncovered the dark secrets below through their courageous efforts in the Mark of Valor contest contest, and by sharing their own original interpretations of the Diablo universe in the Art contest. Some valiant contributors have even been chosen as heroes for their heroic endeavors," the site reads.

So far there's no indication that additional episodes will go into production beyond the current tease, but fans only have less than a week before the actual PC game goes live after a 12-year wait. With the beta testing servers now closed, no one is playing the game until May 15. The installer will actually be unlocked at 8:01 a.m. PDT on May 14 so that users can begin to install the game, troubleshoot any issues that may occur, download and install the launch day 1.0.1 patch, and be ready to play as soon as the servers come online.

Good thing the game-play is stellar, cause the atmosphere gets softer and cheesier with each game.

I wished that video was made with the same cinematics in Diablo III game. Heck, even the Diablo II cinematics were amazing. Anime just doesn't do it for me.

Did anyone else think "You've hit lvl 47!" the moment Imperius stabbed the giant demonic Cyclops. Ah, the good ol days of Diablo II powerleveling, from 1 to 80 in 2 hours.

Everybody's hating for no reason. That was an awesome video! Don't hate it because it's not gameplay or cinematic rendering, if you didn't like it for that you shouldn't have watched it.

  • I agree with K2N hater. This is bs, so a bunch of self rightious "archangels", claim to be on the right side, yet we always see as them invading and slaughtering those simply on the defensive, defending their castle and place or residence. Who says the "archangels" are on the right side? They want others to live by their rulres, they do not want to give freedom. They enslave others. They are are lionized by the propoganda spreading empty minded followers, while their opposition is demonised. I think we should be given the choice of joining the side that stands for freedom, the Diablo's side, rather than the mindless fanatics of "archangels".
