Alleged Prices of AMD's RX 7700 and RX 7800 Leak

Now that we know rough performance of AMD's upcoming Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800 graphics cards, we are left wondering about their prices. If the numbers leaked by All_The_Watts!!, a tweeter that has a very spotty record, are correct, then AMD is considering a rather curious pricing strategy. Meanwhile, since these boards seem to be weeks away, take the information with a grain of salt.

According to "expectations" made by All_The_Watts!!, AMD's recommended price for its Radeon RX 7700 will be $449. The more powerful Radeon RX 7800 will carry a $549 suggested price tag.

Based on recently leaked 3DMark Time Spy scores, AMD's Radeon RX 7700 beats Nvidia's RTX 4060 Ti and Radeon RX 6700 XT. This is only one benchmark and we have no idea how the product performs in other games. Anyhow, the big question is whether a $50 premium over the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and a $119 premium over the Radeon RX 6700 XT is justified, at least based on its performance in 3DMark Time Spy.

When it comes to the AMD's Radeon RX 7800 (which will allegedly retail for $549), it cannot decisively beat either AMD's own Radeon RX 6800 that can be acquired for $450 or Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4070, which of course starts at around $599. If one would only consider an RX 7800 vs. RTX 4070, then of course it is logical to price the former below the latter. Anyhow, AMD's Radeon RX 7800 promises to be a rather fast graphics board, so it will likely end up in our list of the best graphics card.

For now, MSRPs published by the renowned hardware leaker probably represent AMD's current vision of competitive position of its Radeon RX 7700 (since it is faster than the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, let us sell it at a premium) and Radeon RX 7800 (since it is slower than the GeForce RTX 4070, let us sell with a discount). AMD's views relating to the position / pricing of its products this may change several weeks from now. That said, take the alleged MSRP numbers with a pinch of salt.

AMD intends to use its Navi 32 graphics processor with up to 3840 stream processors (60 compute units) for both Radeon RX 7700 and Radeon RX 7800-series graphics cards, according to unofficial information. For now, exact configurations of these products remain under wraps because since they are projected to be launched in late August.

    Ok, it's stupid to mix "MSRP" and Street Pricing, even if it makes sense at a high level. You either quote one, the other or both in separate columns (or both and one in parentheses').

    The other obvious question: is that price for India? Does it include Tax? Does it take into account currency exchange?

    In any case, if AMD thinks Navi 32 dies priced over $500 are a good idea, I think they'll be met with some very rude responses on review day. They can't be over $400 and keep the Navi 31 dies going down. They can let some AIBs fit OC models and such in between, but their reference cards can't be over $400 if they actually want a positive reception.

    When you compare Nvidia 4060ti and AMD 7700... AMD is definitely better option with these prices,
    7800 vs Nvidia 4070 or 4070ti.. Also sounds very competative price...
    Not good prices, but when we think what AMD competes against. These are "good" deal in comparison... and that is what competition is about. If Nvidia does not cut prices... AMD don´t have to cut these prices...

    I think that performance leak, together with the other performance numbers, are making things more confusing. What does 14503 ~ 20239 mean for the RX 6800? Is the 7700, at 15465, as fas as the 6800, or slower? Is this 15k score reliable? Because it all boils down to performance per dolar, but we still don't know the performance. Maybe it is priced competitively, because it performs well, or maybe it doesn't. Too little reliable information to draw any conclusions.

    We can estimate from 7900 XT and 7900XTX. Raytrasing better, rasterization, not so much or even weaker than 6800.
    No point of comparing to 6800. 6800 is better deal, but it is AMD own product so new 7700 or 7800 don´t have to be better than that. 6800 has been running out of inventory for some time, and it is made by AMD so no problem to there (to AMD). These new one competes with 4060ti and 4070 and 4070ti, so the bar don´t have to be high...

    7800 has much lower power consumption and better RT. But is it that worth $100 more over a 6800XT that you can buy now?

    And 4070/ti still wins on RT by a landslide. So that makes it harder to justify.

    Rasterized performance numbers don't take into account the larger performance hit from enabling RT lighting effects though, which are likely to become standard over time.

    If these numbers are indicative of real-world performance, then the 7800 may perform roughly on par with a 4070 in terms of rasterized graphics. But it's probably safe to assume it will be competing more with the 4060 Ti in heavy RT implementations. $549 would position it between the 4060 Ti 16GB and the 4070, but the 4060 Ti 16GB can already be considered something of a poor value. Positioning it directly against that card at a $499 price point would make the 7800 a lot more attractive, particularly when one considers the additional features and better support for non-gaming software that Nvidia's lineup provides. I suppose a lot comes down to the exact level of real-world performance though.

    Ah yes, Sasa Marinkovic's major screw-up is really starting to show itself now. Here's how the RDNA2 lineup should have looked:

    RX 7900 XTX -> RX 7800 XT
    RX 7900 XT -> RX 7800
    RX 7800 XT -> RX 7700 XT
    RX 7800 -> RX 7600 XT
    RX 7700 (XT?) -> RX 7600
    RX 7600 -> RX 7500

    The reason that the RX 7800 can't surpass the RX 6800 isn't because RDNA2 is a bad design, but because it's really what should've been named the RX 7600 XT. This whole generation of GPUs is a hard pass for me. We're getting absolutely horrible value from nVidia, we're getting a dishonest product stack from AMD and Intel's drivers still are still sketchy.
