Silicon Power Shows Off Sky Share Drives with Wi-Fi

Wireless sharing from Silicon Power.

At Computex Taipei last week, Silicon Power was showing off Sky Share, a new series of wireless storage devices. Sky Share allows users to stream and share media with up to eight devices wirelessly and comes with support for Android, iOS, as well as a regular web UI. There's also support for listening to music in the background while you do something else, such as read a document.

 

The Sky Share line includes two models, the Sky Share F10, which is based on NAND flash, and the H10, which is based on a regular HDD. The F10 is available in 32GB and 64GB models, while the H10 is a little bit larger and available in 500GB and 1TB options.

The drives come with support for  Wi-fi n with WPA+WPA2, and a 2600mAh battery to power the whole show. It can be recharged via USB 3.0 and measures in at 134.2 x 78.6 x 23.5 mm with a weight of 255g.

Unfortunately, no word on pricing or release just yet, but we'll keep you posted.

    Kinda cool with the built in wifi, but I can already do this at home with my server and on the go via FTP (assuming I have internet access).

    Yeah, not so "cool" if you have your own network share (or server with remote access turned on) and a wifi router. Just does what I already can do.

    ^Storage expansion of smart phone and tablet people. Micro SD is simply not large enough and USB thumb drive or external HDD sticks out of the chassis, , reducing portability. Not to mention it will draw battery from the device, and obviously phone don't have a USB host port.
