Bill Gates Loses His ''World's Richest Man'' Title

by - source: Tom's Hardware US

Bill Gates has once again been bumped out of the top spot on Forbes' rich list.

Forbes has released its list of the richest people on Earth and tycoon Carlos Slim has nabbed the top spot meaning Bill Gates is no longer the richest man in the world. According to Forbes, Bill has been the world's richest man for 14 of the last 15 years previous. The title was awarded to Warren Buffet in 2008, but Bill came back to take the top spot in 2009.

So who's the new guy? Carlos Slim is a 70-year-old Mexican telecoms mogul who placed third on last year's list.  Slim boasts a net worth of $53.5 billion and owns a $23 billion stake in America Movil. Shares for AM were up 35 percent in a year and in the last 12 months alone, Slim's fortune has risen by $18.5 billion.

Bill Gates is currently worth $53 billion, up $13 billion in the last 12 months, and Warren Buffet's fortune jumped $10 billion to $47 billion.

How are they all up 20% in the last year? Does that take into account losses the year before or what?

I don't think you'll see Bill at your local supermarket redeeming cans and bottles. Not exactly hurting for cash.

Clue: for a 2Mb connection we pay (TELMEX-Slim) 600 pesos (48 USD) per month. The fastets connection Carlos Slim offer is 5Mb for 80 USD.

Ah, and TELMEX is the only real Internet company in Mexico (real= is available out of the principal cities).

I'll bet he's upset. Somebody has $500M more than him.

Good for them. They didn't all start with nothing, but they certainly deserved their success.

IDK anyone is upset, he gets a major tax write-off for all the money he donates.

I guess your forgetting the Bill Gates foundation as well as the $37 Billion Warren Buffet gave to that foundation?

Every ordinary Americans net loss doubled in last year

Ordinary people, invest where they invest if you have anything left to invest.

He may not be richest but I do not know of anyone else with that amount of cash who has given so much back to the world. Bill Gates Foundation does amazing things.

Isn't there a point where too much is too much? I would be happy for $20 million and work at my own leisure and try to live as much as possible. Travel the world for 5+ years then invest in a nice comortable and managable house. Have a family while hiding from the kids your millions (act middle-class and just keep the million sitting in the bank accrueding interest). Spend a good amount of time with the children. Then on their 21st birthday, introduce them to your mansion and your array of expensive cars. Then kick them out of home.

There is a point of diminishing returns with everything including money...

Think about it. If you were that rich, are you going to do that?
No way. If I was a billionaire, I'd still squeeze every penny.

Or if you were one of the 70% of the rest of the World, you'd be happy with $2/day - or a little clean water to drink instead of parasite infested pond water as your only source of drinking water. My hats off to Bill Gates, in my eyes, he IS the richest man in the World because he uses his wealth to do miracles each and every day.

One of those things is a tax deduction for Bill Gates and his associates.

Snif... I feel soooo sorry for Bill Gates.

Meanwhile 40 million Americans have no health protection, the insurance companies make 12billions INCREASE in PROFITS... yeah, really great there.

Insurance companies = Death Panels.

Considering you are bringing up race for absolutely no reason, yea it is a bit racist, it sounds as if you are shocked that a hispanic can win over a white man.
