Max Payne 3 Announced... Finally!

Next news
11:41 AM - March 23, 2009 by Marcus Yam

Take-Two has announced something that should please all PC gaming-faithful -- Max Payne 3 is in the works for a release this winter.

Developed by Remedy Entertainment, the original Max Payne shipped for the PC in July 2001, bringing bullet-time gameplay to the right mouse buttons of all gamers. An equally gritty, but slightly more matured sequel hit two years later and gathered just as much praise as the first did. With both Max Payne entries such successes, a third must have been in the works? Not so, as the originals’ Finnish developer moved on to develop Alan Wake (still yet to be released).

While Remedy is still working on Alan Wake, Take-Two Interactive is passing the license onto Rockstar Games to make Max Payne 3. Currently under development by Rockstar Vancouver, the PC version of the game will be joined by Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 ports this holiday season.

"We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game," said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. "This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation."

Take-Two’s press release only offers this description for Max Payne 3: “Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out.”

There aren’t any screenshots yet, but there is a lone piece of concept art on the official site showing the older, grizzlier Max Payne.

They better not pull a Fallout 3, and just make a Total Conversion mod for GTA4. Max Payne as an Open World game just wouldn't work like the first 2. While Open World games are great for some applications, when you want to control a tight and time sensitive story an Open World can take you out of the experience.

And I hope they go back to the way Max Looked originally. Max in the second game look like Ted Danson.

That is an interseting point, but what I want to know is why he looks so different with every game. Kind of reminds me of the "Vacation" movies where the kids completely change in every movie.

Wired is incorrect. Official press release explicitly states that there will be a PC version.

PC gamers rejoice!

I don't think that's Max, I believe it's just a random stock photo Yam thought would make sense to include in the article.

Well I hope that's just some random photo and not new Max look. That would be just wrong!

Because they can or will fuck up a great story/concept ?

Shiny graphics can take you so far. The list of games proving this is endless.

Totally agree. The 2nd Max looks like someone from NYPD blue and not Mad Max. In addition, Mona went from Italian bad girl to Russian assassin; brunette to blonde.

I've got to get that game! I hope it isn't like the movie - which really is so bad I'd rather forget I'd ever seen it.

Just the other day I dug up my old max payne cd's again and reinstalled the game. I've played max 2 thru like 5 times or so. I just love that story telling style. I've never seen the alternative ending though. The hardest mode is just too hard for me.

Since it's rockstar though, I bet what we can expect is wierd physics, hidden rooms with sexuality, a high price tag, and poor support.

Please prove me wrong! But remedy just make games in a better quality! Driver was great, max payne was better.
