AMD to offer ECC memory support for Opteron 100 series
AMD today said that it now ships Opteron 100 processors that support error-correcting code (ECC) unbuffered memory. For now, the announcement applies only to single-core chips; support for dual-core 100 CPUs is expected to arrive within 30 days. Additionally, AMD said it plans to support DDR2-based ECC unbuffered memory in the future.
According to the company, ECC memory support is enabled through a BIOS update. Only Socket 939-based Opterons (models 144, 146, 148, 150, 152) are able to take advantage of the technology.
The ECC-capable Opterons are priced from $125 for the 144 to $799 for the 152. The dual-core versions 165 to 175 will be offered for $417 and $530. (THG)
