Check out Crytek's Latest Work on CryEngine 3

The big graphical smash at GDC 2011 was Epic showing off it's insane-looking Unreal Engine 3.975 technology, but it isn't the only game in town. (See that here.)

The talented folks at Crytek are also hard at work on CryEngine 3. There was another new demo released at GDC 2011, showing off the latest from the engine. In addition to showing off some very impressive visuals, we also get to see one of the developers using the animation tools. Check it out below:

Marcus Yam
Marcus Yam served as Tom's Hardware News Director during 2008-2014. He entered tech media in the late 90s and fondly remembers the days when an overclocked Celeron 300A and Voodoo2 SLI comprised a gaming rig with the ultimate street cred.

    ...no
just because an engine is platform independent, it doesn't mean it is a port. It will run the same on computers and consoles, with the exception that you can select higher graphical settings on a computer.

I'll admit, that's pretty cool. Since it's for cinema I'm guessing it's partly to quickly roll out CGI. The tools are very impressive though so I'd like to see if they can speed up detailed game development. Time will tell

Looks like I'm right on track with upgrading in 2012, just in time to play games released using CryEngine 3.
