Oculus' New Logo, New Countdown, New Leak

Early in the day there was a surprising series of images found buried on Oculus's website. The images appear to be an upcoming front page design with details about the Rift headset and a pre-order button.

The pictures of the headset depicted in the leaked splash page appear to reveal some previously unseen details, such as a small gamepad and a pedestal-like object that may or may not be a wireless receiver. However, after scrolling down to nearly the bottom of the page, the listed minimum specifications (9800GT/ HD4870) aren't anything near what the company announced just a few weeks ago (GTX 970/ R9 290). It would also seem that all of the images of the Rift are renders in this set, and not the final product you would expect at this stage.

Palmer Luckey had this to say on Reddit in response to the leaked images:

"This is an old placeholder concept image that we accidentally leaked. Everything in it is ancient, certainly nowhere close to final (as evidenced by the GPU specs and the game named 'war').Enjoy checking it out, at this point, but don't expect everything to carry through to the stream on the 11th."

The company did have some real news to announce today, however. It revealed a new logo, along with a live countdown on the main page of the website. The logo change is interesting. Gone is the eye with the blue pupil, replaced with a simply white oval on a black background.

The website appears to be counting down to the live event on Thursday, which we'll be covering in person. (But you can watch the livestream from there, too.) More information is sure to come then.

"Gone is the eye with the blue pupil, replaced with a simply white oval on a black background"

Looks more like a black oval with an open center on a white background.

I liked the old logo better. This one looks like some of the printer errors I've had in the past.

Anyway, they better have something big tomorrow. The lead they have on their competition is quickly deteriorating and a lot of the others are looking like they could be even better than the rift.
