Taking Linux On The Road With Ubuntu

Compatibility

Since the Ubuntu H2 is designed to give users a highly portable and versatile operating system, we decided to run the device on several other computers. Here is what we found.

Dell Inspiron 510m

Boots properly, but it takes quite some time. The notebook's sound system does not seem to be supported, and reinstalling Ubuntu did not help.

Dual Xeon / THG Storage Test System

Worked properly, but took forever to browse the Ubuntu mini DVD.

Asus A8V with ATI Radeon 9600

There seems to be a problem accessing the H2, because all three possible kernels (EHCI, UHCI and OHCI) crashed as follows:

It is recommended to use the EHCI version, as it is supposed to deliver the shortest bootup times.

Gigabyte GA-8I955X Royal

When we first booted the Ubuntu on the H2 it took 13 minutes to boot. Changing the USB port reduced this to four minutes only.

Averatec Pentium M Notebook

Worked properly except for the Wireless module being always active.
