Really Cool and Quiet Power Supplies?

Leads And Connectors

The device includes a standard 24 pin ATX connector that's subdivided for use in older motherboards as well (but there's no matching cable included with this unit). You'll also find extra graphic adapter connectors with 5.25" Molex connectors and six-pin PCI e-connectors as well. SATA drives may be connected to one of the two SATA connectors, which are attached to an external cable on the device (more would be better in this case as in the Greenerger power supply).

Six addition 5.25" connectors and two floppy connectors are also on external cables as well. There are also connectors for additional fans as well, included three 3 pin connectors and a 5.25" Molex connector for pans that draw up to 12V. There's even a temperature sensor to drive fan operation, which itself can be fastened wherever temperatures are likely to peak in your PC case (usually, this means above the CPU or the graphics processor).

The fan temperature sensor is easy to install wherever you like.

Performance

All the numbers are available, but they're important to check when you work with multiple power supplies. Don't mix things up!

At a rated maximum output of 450 watts, the Lion is the second most powerful power supply among the devices reviewed here, and it offered a respectable performance. At Minimum Load (20%) the Lion had no difficulties; even after a continuous hour of operation the fan stayed off. All measurements were within acceptable norms, and operating efficiency was 72%.

At Medium Load (50% of rated maximum power output) the Lion likewise showed no problems. After half an hour of operating, the fan turned on for a little while, but then turned off shortly thereafter. The normal operating efficiency was 74% - not at all bad - but was the lowest measured among all the power supplies we tested at this load level.

At Maximum Load (450 watts, or 100% of rated maximum) the fan turned on soon after the load was drawn, starting at a relatively low fan speed. After about 10 more minutes, the fan speed increased but at no time was it noticeably loud. Operating efficiency was a problem however at this level: we measured only 69% at Maximum Load.

At a price of US$145 (150€) this unit is no bargain, but the price performance ratio is acceptable.
