HP to Launch Laptops With Integrated Projectors

Digitimes cites Monty Wong, vice president and manager of personal computing systems group at HP Taiwan, who says the company has plans to launch both tablets and notebooks PCs with integrated mini projectors.

Miniature projectors placed prominently at CES in 2009 and in 2010 and it seems HP has finally figured out a way to market them to consumers. HP is said to be considering placing the projector on top of the notebook screen, where the webcam is normally located. While integrating a mini projector into a notebook might seem like the perfect way to sneak them into consumer's homes, Wong said the company first plans to launch several stand-alone mini-projector products as an introduction to the notebook-integrated designs.

According to Digitimes, the projector notebooks will be produced mainly by Quanta Computer.

Sounds cool, but I hope they remember to have the projector pointing backwards from the screen, unlike the web-cams which face the user.

I can't wait to see the cost of replacing the bulb! Good idea though.

  • This will be great for use in the class room. :)

But at the same time, it stands to become a source of great embarrassment should one's laptop become infected as you can just imagine the results of having porn pop ups in the class room with the projector turned on, especially if there is sound with the porn.

Unless of course you're in a sexual education class, in which case it could turn out to be a source of great amusement! :D

if they have the projectors facing the user, that would be a tad uncomfortable I may think...

They're LED bulbs and they last many thousands of hours longer than anyone would actually use them.

I like the idea of a projector on a laptop, but these mini projectors are not very bright and the image they project isn't all that large as a result. Might as well just look at the laptop's screen.

Well how usefull is it really? I mean in most places where it would make sense to hold a presentation there is a beamer to use :/
Picture quality-wise it won't be any good anyway due to the size constraints.
