Apple Recalls Beats Pill XL, Citing Battery Overheating

If you own a Beats Pill XL, you might need to give it back. Apple announced today that it is recalling the large portable speaker, which has been in the market since January 2014.

The recall is about the batteries used for the Beat Pill XL. The company stated that in a few rare cases, the batteries overheat and could lead to a fire hazard. It's not exactly clear as to the number of occasions when this kind of incident occurred, but Apple isn't taking any risks and is nipping it in the bud as early as possible.

To start the recall process, you will need to visit Apple's special page. After filling out the web form, the company will send you a prepaid postage box for the speaker. When it's sent back, Apple will give you $325 ($25 more than the original price for the speaker), and you can choose between getting it in Apple store credit or an electronic payment.

There are also two other Beats Pill products on sale at Apple's website, the Beats Pill 2.0 and the Beats Pill 2.0 Limited Edition, but they seem to be safe from the recall. However, both products appear to also have the same rechargeable lithium-ion battery as the Beat Pill XL. Hopefully, the problem doesn't spread to the other speakers.

People who are laughing at this probably don't even own an apple product. I think it's good that they chose to recall it rather than blame it on the company they took over(like saying it's not their problem it was the previous owners). Some people just unreasonably hate apple without even trying it; FYI: their not gaming laptops and products.

Agreed. While yes, this is a large mistake, Apple is accepting the blame and ,most of the haters that are saying "apple fail" believe that their Android and Windows product are pristine.
