Ubisoft's 'Steep' Shows Off Mountain-Based Sports

To end its press event, Ubisoft revealed a new project from its Annecy branch. It’s called Steep, and it’s a sports game set in the Alps where you can use skis, a snowboard, a paraglider or wingsuit to descend from the many peaks in the region.

By utilizing the game’s “mountain view,” which shows you the entire playable world, you can choose from multiple drop zones to start your journey. As you continue to roam around the mountains, you’ll eventually discover other locations to use for future sorties.

The main focus of Steep is the multiplayer experience. You can invite friends or drop in with a random group to take part in a few events. For example, we saw a proximity flying race where the participants had to use their wingsuits to fly down the mountain while staying as close to the ground as possible.

In addition to these races, you can also create challenges to your friends. If you just executed a series of moves on a tough portion of a route, you can record it and send it to your friends to see if they can take a shot at beating your moves.

You won’t have to wait long to try out the game, as it comes out in December. However, Ubisoft Annecy is now taking registrations for its upcoming beta tests on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

  • This game looks pretty interesting, I wish I could try this out somehow. Ubisoft, can you please add Linux support for this game? I can't stand playing the same game over and over sometimes, and I have to try something new. Does anybody agree that this game should have Linux support?
