Portal 2 Editor Coming Soon, Says Valve

Valve Software said on Thursday that a puzzle editor will arrive for Portal 2 on the PC and Mac platforms this May 8. It will arrive as a free DLC called" Perpetual Testing Initiative" and allow creative minds to publish maps straight to the Steam Workshop.

"The 'Perpetual Testing Initiative' allows players to easily create, share, and play Portal 2 puzzles," Valve said. "The Initiative comes with a simplified puzzle maker that allows that creation of mind-bending puzzles without ever leaving the game. The puzzle maker can directly publish maps to the Steam Workshop where users can browse, vote on, and select to play them. Selected puzzles will automatically be downloaded and installed inside Portal 2."

Portal 2 is a first-person puzzle-platform game that arrived on the PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in April 18, 2011 (wow over a year already?). The retail versions are distributed by Electronic Arts while Valve holds the reigns to the PC and Mac digital versions via Steam. The original Portal appeared back in 2007 as part of the Orange Box for the PC and Xbox 360, and then later the PlayStation 3. Both have high Metacritic scores across all platforms.

On Thursday Valve said that it plans to reveal more about the new editor via its blog as the release date grows nearer. However the company's most recent blog entry was back in February, reporting the launch of Bethesda's Skyrim mod depot. The launch included Fall of the Space Core, Vol. 1 which adds an "aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel."

    But no HL3 yet. :(

HL2 ep2 was "only" released back in 2007 with an ending that demands a ep3 or HL3.

    Come on valve...
