The next chapter in the Gears of War franchise finally has a release date. Three years after the release of Gears of War: Judgement, Gears of War 4 arrives later this year on October 11.
Gears of War 4 was initially revealed at last year’s Xbox press event at E3. The game will be the first in the series developed by the new development team at The Coalition. In 2014, Microsoft bought the Gears of War franchise (opens in new tab) from its creators at Epic Games.
Players will have a chance to see a glimpse of the new game with the upcoming multiplayer beta (opens in new tab), which was announced last month. If you played the new Gears of War: Ultimate Edition at some point before April 11, you can participate in the beta’s Early Access program, which runs from April 18 through April 24. Those who didn’t play the game, but still have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, will be able to play the beta on April 25 through the beta’s end date of May 1.
For The Coalition, the next stop is PAX East in Boston. The development team will showcase the game’s multiplayer, participate in a panel session, and hold an esports tournament with a grand prize of $60,000.
