Two days ago, Sony started offering two of its PlayStation 4 bundles, one with Star Wars Battlefront and the other featuring Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, for $299. Obviously, people will be picking up the console at its lowest price, and to further entice new customers, the company is holding a free multiplayer weekend on December 11-13.
The event is open to any PlayStation 4 owner, and all they have to do is buy the multiplayer game of their choice, whether it is Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Destiny or Star Wars Battlefront, and they can play online without a subscription for the weekend. One thing Sony is touting more than anything is for new customers to try out Star Wars Battlefront and its recent free update, the Battle of Jakku. However, if you’re a fan of the old Battlefront games, our impressions showed that DICE’s take on the popular franchise doesn’t live up to expectations.
The timing for the free multiplayer weekend is strange, as it’s better suited for the Christmas weekend. The $299 sales are mostly targeted for those who want to get the console as a present, and then those recipients could try out some multiplayer games for free before deciding on a one-, three- or 12-month subscription.
