The AMD and Intel Energy Crisis
VIA K8T800 Pro (AGP)
K8T800 Pro is the AGP version of VIA's Athlon 64 chipset portfolio. It was one of the first core logic products available for AMD's performance Athlon socket. Yet it turns out to be the most energy-efficient platform in this comparison. An idle power consumption of 90 W with GeForce 6800 GT graphics and the Athlon 64 4000+ is quite a good result - although we doubt that any of the development goals was to reduce power consumption.
From a feature point of view, K8T800 Pro is still absolutely competitive today, although it lacks complex RAID support and usually has two SATA ports only. However, most motherboard makers place additional mass storage controllers on their boards to make up for it.
