The lock serves merely to close things securely. Pressing a function key (at the bottom right) initially triggers the logical release of a hard drive.
Although data are not in acute danger with only one hard drive, they are certainly not secure. The backup drive should be used again quickly.
The M100 can also be monitored via the serial cable.
