Feature Overview
MaxADAPT
MaxADAPT is a name that represents a group of extra features that are supposed to make the Atlas family stand out when compared to other drives. The purpose of two of these features is simply to deal with maintaining the maximum efficiency of the drives as they are exposed to vibrations in different work environments. It is important to either minimize these vibrations or to have the drive itself compensate for them, because they have a negative impact on performance. A third feature optimizes the usage of the cache memory, while a fourth takes care of signal integrity.
Adaptive Bias Estimation (ABE)
ABE stands for logic that predicts actuator moves on the basis of changing thermal conditions and distinct application requests. It is important to position the read/write heads exactly over the appropriate cylinder and to limit the number of aborted writes and repeated reads. Although the drive does not get faster due to ABE, it is capable of maintaining more steady performance.
Rotational Vibration Compensation (RVC)
By their nature, hard drives cause rotational vibrations. When several drives are used, it is possible for those vibrations have a rather negative influence on hard disk performance, since each drive has to keep correcting its head position continuously.
Compensating for vibration caused by using numerous drives is, according to Maxtor, a key feature for achieving maximum I/O performance within multi-drive-neighborhoods.
