The WD1000 clearly benefits from the larger buffer size: 8450 points vs. 9380 with 8 MB - that's quite a difference!

The WD drives seem to be built for high-end applications: both WD1000 drives are noticeably faster than their competitors, including the new WD1200. Although it does not come out on top, its performance is above average.
