OCZ Adds IOPS Edition to Vertex 3 SSD Line

Tuesday OCZ said it has added the Max IOPS Edition solid state drives to its current Vertex 3 line. Arriving in two capacities, the drives combine SandForce's SF-2200 controller with "premium" MLC NAND flash components to produce a 4KB random write performance of up to 75,000 IOPS.

"Following the successful launch of our Vertex 3 SATA III 6 Gbps solid state drives we are pleased to introduce the new Max IOPS edition," said Ryan Petersen, CEO of OCZ Technology Group. "Vertex 3 Max IOPS drives increase random write performance, and are the ideal storage solution for applications that require high aggregate workloads and increased IO throughput."

Available in 120 GB and 240 GB capacities, the drives offer sequential read speeds up to 550 MB/s and sequential write speeds up to 500 MB/s via a SATA 6 Gbs interface. The 120 GB model actually performs the 4KB random write (aligned) at 75,000 IOPS whereas the 240 GB version writes at 65,000 IOPS. 4KB random reads are 35,000 IOPS and 55,000 IOPS respectively.

As for other specs, the new Vertex 3 Max IOPS Edition drives feature a seek time of 0.1-ms, native support for TRIM and RAID configurations, and a MTBF of 2 million hours. The 2.5-inch SSDs also come with a 3.5-inch adapter bracket for mounting in your desktop chassis. All Vertex 3 Series drives come backed with a 3 year warranty, the company said.

Newegg is currently selling the 120 GB model for $319.99 here. The 240 GB model couldn't be located, but it's likely to cost around $569.99 based on the price of the original 240 GB Vertex 3 SSD listed here.
