Blizzard sent over a little reminder that StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty is now on sale for $39.99 USD for a limited time when customers purchase the game directly from Blizzard. That's $20 off the original price, making it an awesome deal until the sale ends June 13, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
"Kick off the StarCraft World Championship Series North American Finals this weekend by inviting a friend (or a dad or grad) to join you in StarCraft 2 multiplayer, where you can both burn a path of destruction across the Koprulu sector," Blizzard said in an email.
StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty launched almost two years ago, and currently has a Metascore of 93 and a user score of 8.1. Blizzard may actually be offering the game at a lower price in preparation for the launch of Heart of the Swarm, the second installment in the StarCraft 2 series slated to arrive sometime later this year.
Gamers who have yet to plunge into the StarCraft universe can check out a portion of the game for free by playing the StarCraft 2 Starter Edition. This "demo" replaces the original demo and offers the first four missions of the single-player campaign. It also offers the first two Challenges, access to the Terran race in Custom Games and Single-Player vs. AI, and access to four custom maps.
"Any campaign progress and achievements you earn while playing StarCraft 2: Starter Edition are automatically saved to your Battle.net account, and will carry over should you ever upgrade from the Starter Edition to the full version of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty," Blizzard reports.
