Get StarCraft 2 at $39.99 USD for a Limited Time

Blizzard sent over a little reminder that StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty is now on sale for $39.99 USD for a limited time when customers purchase the game directly from Blizzard. That's $20 off the original price, making it an awesome deal until the sale ends June 13, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

"Kick off the StarCraft World Championship Series North American Finals this weekend by inviting a friend (or a dad or grad) to join you in StarCraft 2 multiplayer, where you can both burn a path of destruction across the Koprulu sector," Blizzard said in an email.

StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty launched almost two years ago, and currently has a Metascore of 93 and a user score of 8.1. Blizzard may actually be offering the game at a lower price in preparation for the launch of Heart of the Swarm, the second installment in the StarCraft 2 series slated to arrive sometime later this year.

Gamers who have yet to plunge into the StarCraft universe can check out a portion of the game for free by playing the StarCraft 2 Starter Edition. This "demo" replaces the original demo and offers the first four missions of the single-player campaign. It also offers the first two Challenges, access to the Terran race in Custom Games and Single-Player vs. AI, and access to four custom maps.

"Any campaign progress and achievements you earn while playing StarCraft 2: Starter Edition are automatically saved to your Battle.net account, and will carry over should you ever upgrade from the Starter Edition to the full version of StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty," Blizzard reports.

To get your copy of StarCraft 2 for $39.99, head here. Remember, the offer ends June 13, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

I still think this is too much for a game that's missing 2/3 of the campaign.

Yeah. Diablo 3 is. Paid $60 to play a beta pretty much.

sharpiedpandaI hope Heart of the Swarm will be less than that 0.oActually, the pre-order pricing I've seen for Heart of the Swarm has been $39.99. I guess that's okay for something that falls somewhere between a typical expansion and a full game, but I was still hoping for a $29.99 price tag.

  • Wow, a 2 year old game for $40. I can't believe this is news. This is typical for games that aren't overpriced garbage. Sometimes they are even cheaper than that.

I don't see how it is missing 2/3 of the campaign. Just because SC1 had all three races, and Wings of Liberty only focused on Terran, doesn't mean it is missing any of the campaign. The SC2 campaign is at least as long as the SC1 or Brood War campaigns. Have you even played Wings of Liberty? Because I got tons of hours out of the single player, not even mentioning the countless hours that you can get from amazing multiplayer & custom games.

Starcraft 1 gave me many more hours of play than SC2 did.
