The latest 2.5” hard drive generation ships with SAS 6Gb/s and delivers up to 600 GB of storage space, narrowing the gap with much larger 3.5" disks. Today we're comparing the latest 2.5" drives from Seagate and Toshiba to see if they're faster, too.
Benchmark Results: Access Time And I/O Performance
Access Time
I/O Performance
I/O performance isn’t impressive on the Savvio 10K.4 drive, which obviously wasn't optimized to deliver maximum results for this type of workload. Toshiba’s MBF2600RC is significantly faster, but still nowhere near being king of the ring. Both drives clearly don’t aim at I/O-intensive applications.
