The AMD Squeeze: Nvidia Intros GeForce 8800 for $300
Oblivion
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion shows us something new. We maximize the settings in this title to make it our ultimate torture tester. At the highest resolutions, the BFG 8800GTS OC 320 MB graphics card could not complete the tests. When the loading was complete for each save point, the game would crash indicating an issue with the card. When this happens, it normally means there isn't sufficient memory to render the frames. Another thing this title demonstrated during our tests is that there is a dramatic downturn in performance at 1600x1200 and up. When the graphics card is bottlenecked by frames in the outdoor scene, the indoor scene allows the card to go full speed. Here the frame rates almost drop by 70 frames per second each time the resolution is increased one level.
