Last month we offered a great deal on Tom's Hardware awarded hardware. One of the deals was so popular that Newegg ran out of stock until recently. As a special offer to Tom's Hardware readers, the deal is back!
PowerColor's HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition card won a Smart Buy award for incorporating a cut-back Tahiti GPU in a $240 package (Tahiti LE, Tested: PowerColor's HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition), but the card can now be had for less than $210 for U.S. shoppers with the following promotional code:
| Item | Promo Code | Discount | Final Price | Start Date | End Date |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
13% Off | $208.79 + Free Shipping | 3/25/2013 | 3/31/2013 |

For sake of disclosure, I bought the Sapphire card and it is great. Perhaps I am looking for reassurance that it was a good deal too!
Just curious...
Above 70c temps are a little concerning too.
I'd be afraid to run gpgpu tasks on that thing 24/7
The only reason I went with the PowerColor card over the Sapphire is because the Sapphire one wouldn't fit in my case. The Myst is 10.5", and I have 10.6" available. The Sapphire is 10.83". That said, I'm digging the Myst just fine.
Great card!
The temp and power differences are likely due to the higher voltage on the GPU core. AMD is using cut-down Tahiti cores for the 7870 LE and are likely getting some of those cores from batches of Tahiti cores that have issues but still have at least 3/4 of their shaders working normally. Some of those cores may require more voltage to work properly so AMD has enabled higher stock voltages on 7870 LE chips than the 7950 chips have.
thx thoms!
