The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim enjoyed an explosive launch when it debuted last month, so it's hardly surprising to learn that the popular game has won Game of the Year at the VGAs. The title beat out Batman: Arkham City, Portal 2, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to win the prize at Spike TV's VGAs in Los Angeles this past weekend, but it wasn't the only win for the game or studio Bethesda. Skyrim also bagged best RPG, while Bethesda rounded out its hat-trick with an award for best studio.
All was not lost for the other Game of the Year nominees, though as Batman: Arkham City did manage to snag an award for Best Xbox 360 Game, while Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception was awarded the title of Best PS3 Game, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword won Best Wii Game and Portal 2 won Best PC Game. Drake's Deception also won Best Graphics and Best Shooter was given to COD: Modern Warfare 3. Minecraft was also on the winners bill, winning Best Independent Game.
Valve's Portal 2 cleaned up, winning a total of five awards, including Best PC Game, Best Best DLC, Best Multiplayer, Best Performance by a Human Male (Stephen Merchant as Wheatley), and Best Performance by a Human Female (Ellen McLain as GLaDOS).
Batman: Arkham City scooped four awards in total, winning Character of the Year for the Joker, Best Xbox 360 Game, Best Action Adventure Game and Best Adapted Video Game.
