Cheaper, Faster and More Versatile: External Hard Drives from CoolMax, Maxtor and Seagate

Maxtor OneTouch II

With a design that exudes an impression of robustness and a metal case that makes it anything but light, only a few products can hold a candle to Maxtor's OneTouch II. Like the OneTouch II's predecessor, its form-factor also allows the devices to be stacked up on top of each other.

Its name is a play on the multifunction button on the device's front, which calls up applications when pressed. The button also shines blue, which looks really cool together with the honeycomb front cover.

Besides the mains plug and the power switch, a USB 2.0 and two Firewire ports are also on the back if you want to set up a chain of devices.

For convenient data backups (ideally using the OneTouch button), Maxtor includes the Retrospect Express HD program by respected software house Dantz. This has numerous settings including hard drive speed, energy management (how fast the standby mode comes on) and configuration of the OneTouch button.
