The time has come for Corsair to revamp one of its most popular PSU lines, and the result is good. For starters, the new RM1000x achieves higher overall performance than the older model. It uses a higher quality fan. It has super-high efficiency at light loads, and it is compatible with alternative sleep modes, including Microsoft's modern standby. The only problem is that that you need to find a compatible mainboard to support this feature.
Besides the new platform, build by CWT under Corsair's tight supervision, the new RM1000x and RM850x are so far the only PSUs that we have seen featuring three EPS connectors. Since Corsair's engineers try to be ahead of the curve, it seems that a major change in mainboards and CPUs is on the way, with the high-end ones demanding more juice. In our eyes, three EPS look overkill since each of these connectors can provide more than 300W, so in total close to 1kW for the CPU socket area seems crazy! You will need a super-cooler to handle such a CPU!
There is not much competition in the 1000W Gold category since most PSUs with similar capacity are Platinum or Titanium. A good and more expensive alternative option is the Seasonic Prime Gold 1000, which achieves higher performance. Still, it doesn't have such a good cooling fan, and its overall noise output is notably higher than Corsair's offering.
