Navigating the Memory Upgrade Jungle

Buyer Resources

Where should buyers turn to figure out the maximum capacities supported by their systems? Several manufacturers have so-called "memory configurators" that contain complete compatibility listings for most current systems. We tried several of them, and have described our results below. They are listed alphabetically by company name.

Apacer's configurator uses a very short process to find the correct part number for most OEM systems. It also provides motherboard-specific searches, but the list of supported motherboard brands is very short.

Unfortunately, Apacer doesn't link to an online store, nor does it provide a list of vendors for selected products. This leaves buyers needing to use other search engines to find the referenced part numbers.
