Fan Speed Depends On Load
In idle mode the fan ran at 2,800 rpm, while the chip heated up to 33°C. The noise generated by the fan was at a comfortably low level. When we ran 3Dmark 2003, the temperature display showed 50°, and the fan speed quickly shot up to over 3000 rpm.
At 53° the fan speed was 3900 rpm, and the GeForce FX 5900XT Golden Limited began to be audible. When we activated all the features of X2, we measured 55-58° on the chip, and a fan speed of 4100 rpm. Now the fan was clearly audible. In order to reach these high temperatures quickly, we overclocked the graphics card to a core clock speed of 430 MHz.
