Though penetration of solid-state drives (SSDs) in notebooks continues to draw attention, leading controller IC designer InComm believes meaningful penetration still depends on NAND flash performance and cost, according to company general manager LH Luo, who stressed the vital role that controllers play when NAND flash fabrication advances. Although there still seems to be considerable issues to be addressed in the deployment of SSDs in notebooks, Luo feels that handheld devices will see faster SSD penetration.
