Adaptec MaxIQ: Flash SSDs Boost RAID Performance

MaxIQ Versus SSDs

An individual SSD would still be significantly faster in our database benchmark. However, it would also limit the available capacity to 32GB and remove all redundancy.

In the file server scenario, the individual SSD cannot deliver the highest performance, but it still delivers the best results at the 25GB volume capacity point.

MaxIQ even beats the individual SSD in the Web server test if only 5GB and 25GB volume sizes are used. This is because the entire MaxIQ storage solution can read hot data off the X25-E and cold data off the RAID at the same time.

Once again, the SSD delivers higher constant I/O performance, but is limited in total capacity.
