Enter to Win a $400 Newegg Card or Eee PC

Which Internet browser you use is a personal choice. Some people use one just because it best supports the websites that he or she frequents most often, while others just use whatever most convenient to hover over and click.

Earlier this month we started a contest together with Newegg that required entrants to download and try Internet Explorer 8 for a chance to win a $400 Newegg gift card or an Asus Eee PC valued at $429.99.

Today we’re proud to announce our first winner: Greg Grotyohann from Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, who selected an Eee PC for his prize.

Fear not, the contest is still going! Just to be clear, you don’t have to be an Internet Explorer 8 user to enter or win, but you do have to give it a shot. Visit the contest page by clicking here and the rest easy. We’d advise interested parties to get their entries in quick. The contest is only open to 10,000 people and will operate on a first come, first served basis.

So what are you waiting for? CLICK HERE to enter!

Not into contests? Here are links to all the other major browsers available for download:

The fine print:

As with all contests, there are rules: The Giveaway is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia ("U.S.") who are 18 years of age or older as of date of entry, possess a valid U.S. driver’s license, and can provide proof of legal residency ("Entrant"). The closing date for entries is 11:59 PM Eastern Time on June 30th, 2009. Only ONE entry per person will be considered a valid entry. For a full list of contest rules, we encourage you to click HERE.

You must download Internet Explorer 8 to be eligible for the contest. If you entered the contest but did not download IE8, you can download it here. There is no need to re-enter the contest.

I was about to go "Yay I'm in!" until I released it was US Only. Oh well, the other contest allows Canada in the party. Yay!

Yeah, it's STILL not worth the aggravation having IE8 on my computer. "Babe" or "No Babe." (Besides, how sexist can you get?!?)

So, is this the same posting as before? I mean, if you already entered in the past, can you enter again? Or is this the same contest?

Considering it has a 10,000 person entry limit, it's pretty sad it hasn't filled up if this is the original contest.

Microsoft can go ahead and mail me my $400 NewEgg giftcard if they'd like.

    Pfft. Desperate? Hardly.

They won't have to do a thing if Firefox gets any buggier, anyway. No it's not riddled with bugs, but it does have a couple, and the whole reason I used Firefox to begin with was to get away from IE problems - why would I if Firefox wasn't any better?

I will say though that while I overall like IE 8, I had to use Firefox to download a UPS shipping label from newegg. IE 8 wouldn't print it out properly and there was no setting I could change to make it work. That is in fact the kind of thing I stopped using IE for a decade ago, and what will prevent me from using it in the future. I haven't bothered to put Firefox on my Win 7 machine - but haven't had to print any shipping labels on it either.

This contest has a goofy set-up, imo; I mean, I actually have to click on the 'download' button to pretend to install the browser I already use, and told the form I was using? Please.

    ;)
