Digicams: New Little Megapixel Monsters, Part II
Casio EX-M2
The extra-flat EX-M2 with an LCD screen twice the width of the Sony and much better, plus an MP3 play function, seems like a dream camera.
But the change of sensor has done the M2 no good. By upping from 1 to 2 megapixels, the Exilim loses in sensitivity. It no longer opens to 2.5 but 3.2, and it shows. The Exilim EX-M2 appears to compensate for the opening difference by lowering its sensitivity, probably closer to ISO 150, when it should be around ISO 100 as before. Casio could not tell us any more about this. They just agreed we were right to think that the default sensitivity is higher than the M1 and near to ISO 150.
