In response to the launch of LG Electronics' latest Blu-ray Disc (BD) burner (GGW-H20L), complete with claims of it being the first BD burner to support 6x BD-R SL (single-sided single-layer) write speeds, sources at Taiwan-based makers of optical disc drives commented that the 6x write speed claims are meaningful more for marketing purposes rather than practical ones, as 6x BD-R discs are not available yet. LGE last week announced the launch of the GGW-H20L in South Korea at a recommended retail price of 490,000 Won (US$532) and some online shopping websites in the US market have quoted US$514 for the model, which will be available later this week or early next week, the sources pointed out.
