Terabyte drives from Samsung and Seagate have been delayed, but WD just released a new 1,000 GB hard drive called the Caviar GP. It's no performance champion, but it's probably the most efficient desktop hard drive ever.
Drive Surface Temperature
The dynamically adjusting rotation speed also has an impact on the drive’s heat dissipation. Despite working on four platters, the WD10EACS Caviar GP only reached 41°C (105°F) after two hours of intensive operation. Bear in mind that the only drive that stayed cooler, the WD1600AAJS, is a single-platter drive from WD, the single disc causing considerably less friction.
