Under heavy load, the CPU temperature in our test system climbed to 65°C (149°F) - this is about two degrees Celsius hotter than when using the box cooler at the same fan speed. Likewise, when running Windows at idle mode, the CPU temperature for the Startech unit was higher than when the AMD box cooler was installed.

These results mean that this cooler isn't suitable for replacing the AMD boxed cooler, because users get no advantage from making that switch. The Startech would be of most interest to those with portable computers where its light weight might make a difference, as in mobile embedded systems. With noise levels of 40.5 dB(A), this unit falls in the middle of the pack.
