Windows Vista supports the new Version 10 of DirectX. It's still too early to investigate the effective performance of this new DirectX implementation, because it's still in the throes of development and is supported in only a very few applications. In fact, right now the majority of 3D games crash with some kind of error message soon after they start up under Direct X 10.

You can set individual volume levels for different applications.
A numeric value indicates the volume level.
The volume setting also shows a gauge reading.
