Computex 2007: Mega Memory and Graphics Galore

Introduction

Rain seems to be on the agenda this week. The clouds rolled in earlier this week. While it might look gloomy as Taipei 101 and the surrounding area were veiled under heavy clouds and rain, the bad weather did not stop tens of thousands of people from attending inside the event.

Real-Time Graphics Card Overclocking from Asus

Asus will offer a new GeForce 8600 GT graphics card that comes with an additional overclocking control module. The EN8600GT OC GEAR allows the user to use a small wheel to overclock the graphics card (both graphics memory and the GPU) - similar to how you control the volume on your car stereo. Asus also uses a graphics chip cooler, which is not based on Nvidia's reference design. It claims that the GPU keeps cooler by up to 14°C, which is quite a lot.

Many of the ATI graphics card makers are showing off the upcoming HD 2600 and 2400 boards. The Asus HD 2600XT has a special cooler and features GDDR4 at 1.1 GHz.

The Asus HD 2400Pro could make a very nice home theater graphics board with available HDMI out and passive cooling.
