The Good, the Bad and the Beautiful: 17" LCDs Reviewed

In Practice

The excessive latency of this panel was evident with games and movies, but we'll do an update of the article as soon as we've received the new Q17+ panel. However we can say that the interpolation wasn't as good as with the Samsung panel. The published viewing angles are more realistic than those announced by Samsung. When screening a film, we noticed less sparkling on color masses. A halo of light was visible on the upper part of our monitor, and was particularly visible in the black bands in DVD 16/9 format.

Conclusion

It's hard to draw conclusions for the moment since we'll have to redo the latency tests on the Q17+. Still, the Samsung panel won't do everything and its use doesn't necessarily mean that the monitor will be of high quality. Other parameters like uniformity and pixel interpolation have to be taken into account. Once again, we'll update this part as soon as we've received our new Q17+.
