Last Day: Tom's Hardware Award Winners on Sale at Newegg

A little while back, Newegg approached us about offering special deals through Tom's Hardware. Rather than simply agreeing, we made it a point that the deals needed to be something special. They needed to be products we were comfortable recommending to our audience, first and foremost. And so, we came up with idea to approach Newegg any time a product in one of our reviews stood up above the rest, receiving one of our awards.

Our first attempt at this (an award-winning cooler heavily discounted by a mail-in rebate) was decidedly a flop. The deal was a good one. But, understandably, the fact it involved a MIR killed it for many of you. Fair enough; we've been burnt by mail-in rebates as well (Ed.: Here's looking at you, AT&T U-verse). We went back and discussed with Newegg, making it clear that future deals would need to be realized upon checkout.

As it happens, this week was a good one for a few different products on Tom's Hardware. First, this past Monday, PowerColor's HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition card won a Smart Buy award for incorporating a cut-back Tahiti GPU in a $240 package (Tahiti LE, Tested: PowerColor's HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition). We asked Newegg if they could help on that price, and the card can now be had for less than $210 with the following promotional code:

That card was worthy of recognition at $240, we originally pointed out. Under $210, it's cheaper than any of the Pitcairn-based 7870s on Newegg. It does use more power, but its performance is well worth the trade-off. That makes it a particularly attractive offering.

UPDATE: A great deal doesn't stick around for long! The PowerColor HD7870 PCS+ Myst Edition card is sold out and won't be restocked before the end of the promo code, but those of you who missed it will soon be getting a second chance.

More recently, today, we published Four Keyboards And Four Mice For LAN Party Gamers, Rounded-Up. In that piece, Razer's BlackWidow Tournament Edition Keyboard won Approved recognition. If you'd like to know more about our findings, check out the full story! But Newegg's offering knocks that one down from $80 to $65.

In the same piece, Logitech's G9x also won an Approved award. Unfortunately, we concluded, its feel is what sets it apart, and that really needs to be felt first-hand. Newegg is helping make that a little easier by knocking the mouse down to $50, which is $5 less than the $55 it's currently listed at, after winning recognition at $80.
