Firefox 1.5 hits 20 million downloads

Mozilla said that its most recent version of the Firefox browser has been downloaded more than 20 million times since its launch on November 29.

To increase the pace of software requests, the organization recently unveiled the second phase of "Firefox Flicks," its community-driven marketing campaign for the browser. What began as a November 2004 ad in the New York Times that was paid for by community members has now evolved into an ad contest encourages professionals, students, and aspiring creatives in film and TV production, Web design, advertising and animation to submit high-quality 30-second ads about the browser.

According to a recent survey conducted by WebSideStory, Firefox currently holds an 8.9% share of the browser market. Internet Explorer is estimated at 87.6% while others make up 3.5%.
