MSI today reveals price and specifications for X-Slim notebook, costing up to $1,000.
We’ve been eyeing the MSI X-Slim notebook since we first saw the sleek, MacBook Air-like form at CES early this year. Now nearly four months later, MSI announces the pricing and the specifications for two X-Slim models.
The X-340 will top the line for now and be one of the first notebooks to use one of Intel’s upcoming CULV chips, specifically the SU3500. It’ll sit on an Intel GS45 + ICH9M-SFF supporting up to 4 GB RAM and have GMA 4500MHD graphics. A 320 GB HDD will provide the storage. Video out options will include both VGA and HDMI out.
The X-320 is a good bit more modest with an Atom Z530 1.6 GHz processor on the Intel US15W chipset and GMA500 graphics. It’ll top out at 2 GB RAM and it comes with a 250 GB HDD. What it does have that its big brother doesn’t is support for 3G/WiMax for mobile broadband.
Both models will come with a 13.4-inch 1366 x 768 display, which is amusingly termed as of the “Glare” variety in MSI’s documentation. Both also have the usual 1.3 MP webcam, Bluetooth, three USB ports, SD card reader and the choice to come dressed in black, white or silver.
Of course, the draw to both these models are their form, measuring 8.8-inches (L) x 12.9-inches (W) x 0.7-inches (H). The X-Slims will weigh 2.8 lbs with the standard 4-cell battery, and an undisclosed amount more with the optional 8-cell.
MSI says that the X-340 will be priced at under $1,000 while the X-320 will start at $700. While the price bump could be significant in terms of ratio, we’re already leaning towards the X-340. Look for both this May.
