External Storage With RAID: Proware DP-405CI
Proware DP-405CI Inside
Proware uses simple steel panels for the system housing. The edges are smoothed, and the case has a solid finish to it. An Areca ARC-600 serves as RAID controller, controlling the four UltraATA hard drives. A variation based on Serial ATA is quite feasible, although performance would not benefit from it - the interface to the system would quickly obviate the slim advantage. And right now, UltraATA drives are still cheaper than their SATA cousins.
Very good: Proware even included a hardware XOR unit with 64 MB cache memory for high-speed parity data generation.
