Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is extremely CPU-limited by our Phenom II X6 1055T, even when it’s overclocked to 4 GHz.
Our recent PCIe Scaling article showed the same problem (to a slightly lesser degree) when using these same cards with a 4 GHz Core i7, and we probably would have crossed the SLI set off our shopping list had we previously know the issue would be this bad.
The processing load limit in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 finally begins to shift from CPU to GPU limitations at 2560x1600 with 4x AA. Unfortunately, resolutions this high won’t be used in our Day 4 system value comparison.
Crysis appears slightly less CPU-bound than our previous benchmark, but its performance curve still indicates a bottleneck at anything less than our highest setting.
