Thursday OCZ Technology Group announced the launch of its new bootable RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD. Building upon the original 1st-generation RevoDrive, the new version boasts speeds up to 740 MB/s and up to 120,000 IOPS, almost three times the throughput of other high-end SATA-based solutions.
According to OCZ, the new SSD gets its "edge" by bypassing the SATA II bottleneck and utilizing a PCIe x4 interface. It also improves on the previous version's design by incorporating four Sandforce-1200 controllers (instead of two) while maintaining the same onboard RAID 0 layout. However unlike other competing solutions, the drive is bootable, allowing for super-fast startups.

The RevoDrive X2 PCI-Express SSD comes in six capacities--100 GB, 160 GB, 240 GB, 360 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB. Drives with capacities of 100 GB to 160 GB offer read speeds up to 740 MB/s and write speeds up to 690 MB/s. Drives with capacities ranging from 240 GB to 960 GB offer read speeds up to 740 MB/s and write speeds up to 720 MB/s. All six are compatible with Windows XP 32/64, Vista 32/64 and Windows 7 32/64.
OCZ said the drives are now available through its global channel.
We also reported on Angelbird's Wings SSD, which has the ability to remove or add spare SSDs and also comes bootable out of the box.
