BSkyB, parent company of Sky, has apparently pulled its Android apps from the Google Play Store following rumors of compromised applications. Sky released a statement today confirming that the apps had been removed from the Google Play Store but explained that it was a temporary measure.
"Several of Sky’s Android apps have been temporarily removed from the Google play store after app pages were defaced early on Sunday morning," Pocket-lint cites Sky as saying. "We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to Sky customers wanting to download our Android apps and are working hard to make these apps available again as soon as possible. Sky Android apps that Sky customers have previously downloaded should continue to work as normal, so there is no need for customers to remove these apps from their Android device."
This past weekend, Sky's Twitter page carried a message informing users that the Sky New and Sky+ apps for Android had been "hacked and replaced." This tweet went on to warn users that had the apps installed to remove the applications from their devices. It seems the folks behind this tweet also altered the app descriptions for Sky's mobile applications and the apps have been pulled while the issue is resolved.
