BioShock 2 Release Date Announced

One of the very best 'dark horse' games in the current generation of console and PC shooters is BioShock. But now the secret is out and everyone has eyes on the sequel. After a false-start release date, today we know for certain when we'll be getting BioShock 2.
2K Games announced today that BioShock 2 will be available worldwide beginning February 9, 2010. From the sounds of the announcement, February 9 will mark a simultaneous launch for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC.
The game description from 2K is as follows:
Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. Players step into the boots of the most iconic denizen of Rapture, the Big Daddy, as they travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and their own survival.
Multiplayer in BioShock 2 will provide a rich prequel experience that expands the origins of the BioShock fiction. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the BioShock toolset to survive, as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.
BioShock 2 is currently in development at 2K Marin in collaboration with 2K Australia, Digital Extremes and 2K China. Click here to see a teaser trailer and here to see the multiplayer trailer.

If you want to achieve a decent overclock, you’re going to need the right utilities and drivers. As with almost anything else, it’s a matter of using the right tools for the job. The problem is that the drivers especially are in a constant state of change, with user interfaces being altered and features being added or dropped. That means third-party tools are always racing to keep up, and a graphics card maker’s own overclocking utility may break from one driver to the next. Gone are the times where you could just update your graphics drivers whenever you were doing some “spring cleaning” in your system, anyway. If you play current 3D games, you’re more or less forced to keep your drivers up to date. ATI releases a new version of its Catalyst driver suite every month, and each one features new bug fixes, improvements, and optimizations for games. A good example of this is the game The Last Remnant. Thanks to CrossFire optimizations, the performance of dual-card configurations has actually improved by a factor of three. Games based on the Unreal 3 engine also require the drivers to be optimized for them, and it may take a Catalyst release or two to get there. Since many top-tier games such as Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Stranglehold use this 3D engine, keeping up with driver updates is imperative. MSI’s Radeon HD 4870 card comes with its own overclocking tool called D.O.T. (Dynamic Overclocking Technology). You can’t download it directly from MSI’s support page, nor is it included on the driver CD. Instead, it is integrated right into MSI’s modified driver. At the time this article was written, the most recent release was version 8.542. Meanwhile, ATI had already released Catalyst 9.6. The trouble is, you can’t mix and match. If you upgrade to a newer non-MSI driver, you lose the D.O.T. feature. Trying to be clever, we downloaded MSI’s own version of the 8.603 driver from the Radeon HD 4770 product page. Installing it onto a fresh system yielded the same result as using the ATI version--no D.O.T. tab with overclocking features. When we tried to upgrade to that version from the modified drivers that came with our HD 4870, the D.O.T. tab remained. However, none of the changes we made affected the actual clock speeds, in effect rendering the tool useless. Thus you’ll have to choose between using the most recent driver release with the newest bug fixes and improvements on the one hand and having the D.O.T. feature at your disposal while being stuck with an older driver on the other. No doubt MSI will upgrade its modified release, but it’s likely that it will always lag behind ATI’s latest official ones. See more products MSI Radeon 4870 Video Card... Nintendo Wii Console (5 offers) Online shop Price gamestar777 $236.00 nickshop $243.88 P.C. Richard & Son $249.97 eCampus $249.99 DiscountsJungle $254.95 See more products Does the Wii have a great name? No comment. Is the processor next generation? Not really - the system is basically an overclocked Gamecube. Can it play HD DVDs? We don't think so, in fact the Wii can't even play regular DVDs. Is it high resolution then? Sorry, the Wii is 480p at best, while the Xbox 360 is capable of 1080i high definition. Not convinced that buying the Wii is a good idea? Well the reality is that the Wii has succeeded in enticing the hearts of gamers everywhere, in spite of its specifications. And the way Nintendo did this was brilliant: it took an approach that made all previous console benchmarks and features unimportant. Nintendo has wisely shifted the focus away from the numbers and towards what makes gamers out of regular people in the first place: interactivity and immersion. It all comes down to a simple decision: if you want to have fun playing virtual tennis, would you prefer to do it by pressing buttons on an analog gamepad, or by swinging around a responsive virtual racquet? How about gamepad buttons versus a virtual bow for archery? Gamepad versus virtual lightsaber? The motion sensitive wand controller is the console's key to success, and it's this simple premise that makes the Wii exciting and fresh. Forget the specifications; Nintendo's new console has a responsive and accurate control scheme that has excited the minds of game developers and players alike. Oh, and there is one very positive specification about the Wii I forgot to mention: its MSRP is around $250. Also important to remember is that it shouldn't be impossible to find in retail for Christmas, since its release date is November 14th. It looks a lot better for the underdog now, doesn't it?

By Rob Wright Oh HDMI, where art thou? That was the question many gamers asked upon the release of next generation video game consoles. Because the Xbox 360 was first launched in November of 2005, it seems like there have been countless versions of the console released (though in reality, there have been five different SKUs, including the Halo 3 edition). Until the release of the Xbox 360 Elite this year, however, none of these consoles included an HDMI interface. Well, it's about time! This Xbox may look the same, but it's got more storage and HDMI support. Not only does the Elite include an HDMI interface, the console also comes with a 120 GB hard drive and an HDMI 1.2 cable (plus a network and a component/composite cable). True, it's the most expensive Xbox 360 version to date at $449.99. And yes, it costs almost as much as the PlayStation 3, which includes a Blu-ray player whereas the Xbox 360 console does not. Still, the Elite is arguably the best version of Microsoft's next generation console; HDMI capability is key, and its hard drive offers 100 GB more capacity than does the Xbox 360 Premium. The Elite is currently bundled with two Xbox 360 games - Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and Forza 2. And for all gamers who have suffered from Xbox 360 failures and the dreaded "red ring of death," there's a little good news, too. While there's not much difference between the hardware for previous 360 versions and the Elite - sorry, the console is still loud - there are a few improvements, most notably the introduction of solid-state capacitors. Will this eliminate the console's penchant for overheating? Only time will tell, but it looks as if Microsoft has made an attempt to improve its hardware. And that alone may be worth the money. Those shopping for an Xbox console for someone special may finally be able to buy with confidence. Join our discussion on this article!

who's your big daddy, little girl? I AM!
Hooray for final release dates
Can't wait.
YAY!! I will ask my wife to buy it for my birthday!
The original Bioshock is only 5 dollars on Direct2Drive for those who are still looking to play the first one. Just thought I would throw that out there.
^ That's a pretty good deal. Anyway Bioshock is one game where I think it's worth it to have the boxed version (even with that stupid copy protection) and right now they have the box on newegg with Bioshock and Oblivion (just in case you don't have either) for 27.99. I just like having the physical media for good games, well those that are worth it anyway.
I hope they don't put that lame ass copy protection on Bioshock 2. If they do then I'll probably hold off on it till they also put it on Direct2Drive or it gets cheap enough that I'll buy it anyway.
I can´t understand why so many people love this (bad) remake of System Shock 2, specially when SS2 is better...

+1. If they put DRM it's a no go for me. I didn't buy the first one due to this.
Wait I thought BS2 was a prequel?
It says, "Set approx 10 years after the original BS"
???
Direct2Drive has the worst kind of DRM. Steam's is way better
Nice to see a pc game release. Wish EA would get back on board and release Madden for PC.
Did not buy the first DRM infected one (PC) why should I give EA money for the second.
I hope they don't put the stupid pipe hacking thing in again. That was the only part I hated about the game. What a pain in the ass. Other then that the game was awsome. Can't wait for multiplayer.

I didn't buy it either. Though my ISP charges me $40 a month, and I pay a extra tax on all blank media in Canada...
Was a fun game though.
Waiting patiently.
These two games will get my PC gaming cash.
Dragon Age (RPG) from Bioware who stated the DRM will be disk check only, release date next month.
Then there is the new FPS from Bethesda "Rogue Warrior" who gave use my favorite FPS/RPG of all time, Fallout 3. Bethesda did use SecuRom for Fallout 3 but it did not have limited activations (rent-a-game) and no Internet connection was required to activate or play the game. That is acceptable. If you were smart and stayed away from Microsucks Live market place for expansions and bought them on a disk from a retail store, Bethesda coded the first release to disable the need for a disk in the drive, running the whole game from your HD, it's great and real fast. Thanks Bethesda!
so many good games that are out for pc...hell i didn't even beat bioshock 1 yet.
oh damn... FINALLY!!!
i cant wait.. gonna be waiting outside of gamestop till midnight on febuary 8th to get bioshock 2 =]
obviously a must have if you liked the dark and damp atmosphere created in part 1.
dragon age hopefully will become the game that will get me back to the heights of fallout3 and oblivion!
its about time cant wait but i agreee with all the people about the DRM it would be a damn shame if they ruin it.
I just hope the DRM won't be like the first game. I didn't purchased the first one at launch because of it.
I don't care if Bioshock if $1... with their BS SecuROM with limited installs, spyware/root kit - SCREW Take2 / EA. Even their DEMO had DRM - which caused problems too...
Unless otherwise noted... Another Bioshock game I won't BUY, much less play.
I would really like to pre-order but uncertainty about DRM is stopping me.
Good thing I didn't pre-order Batman too. Even the steam version has limited installs...
I'll be picking it up used on ebay for my PS3, I am not giving money to Eidos.
Damn so much for this years holidays, not much in the video game world coming out.
After? Huh, i was under the impression it was a prequel.
Am I the only one who thought Bioshock 1 was a piece of overhyped crap?
It was absolutely ridiculous the way things you had just killed would respawn right behind you. You could never clear an area because there were infinite respans.
I didnt think the graphics deserved the hype either. The view out of windows etc was so lo-res and pixellated it was reminiscent of Amiga days.
I can´t understand why so many people love this (bad) remake of System Shock 2, specially when SS2 is better...
Hey, that is not a fair statement. System Shock 2 is one of my favorite games of all time but you cannot compare it to Bioshock. They are two different games and both great, Bioshock is NOT a remake of System Shock 2. If you truly believe that then you have not either not played Bioshock enough to see that, or you just didn't care enough to get your facts straight. That being said and as much as I enjoyed Bioshock, I would be extremely happy to see a sequel to System Shock.
