San Carlos (CA) - Despite rampant attempts to squash spammers, a new report from Internet messaging company Postini claims that 9 out of every 10 e-mails is junk.
Postini, founded in 1999 as a cyber messaging security company, found that the holiday swing, combined with increasing knowledge among hackers about how to send bulk messages, is at the root of the spamming explosion.
Trojan horses, botnets, and phishing are all tactics used by scammers trying to catch at least a fraction of the targeted email users. Reports suggest that organized cyber gangs account for most of the unwanted e-mail.
The U.S., along with several other countries, have tried to litigate the problem, and e-mail providers work hard to filter out the junk as much as possible, but the more sophisticated spammers have found ways to go undetected as well as to bypass the filters.
